Working with us in the Field of the Unconscious

Collaborators
We welcome collaborators who have a serious interest in psychoanalysis from Freud through Lacan and beyond, in its clinical and other dimensions, and in its implications for the future of humanity. Since our orientation within psychoanalysis has been derived from the clinical and metapsychological work of GIFRIC (Groupe interdisciplinaire freudien de recherche et d’interventions cliniques et culturelles) in Quebec, Canada, we expect of those who wish to join us in our work (1) that they begin (and then continue with), the five-year, one-week per year, springtime Training Seminar jointly sponsored by GIFRIC and SPIIRAL in Quebec City, a structured sequence in clinical theory. In addition, we expect of our collaborators (2) that they begin (and then continue) to participate in the activities of one or another local Circle of the Freudian School of Quebec (École freudienne de Québec). This provides a connection with ongoing investigations of that School, on whose model we will build a parallel school in coming years. Collaboration begins with joining a working or study group of SPIIRAL. The Presidential Advisor in SPIIRAL, Bettina Soestwohner, is available (admin@spiiral.org) to answer your questions about the Working and Study Groups, and to connect you with the convener of the group of your interest, and with the directors of the various Circles.
Membership
To become a Member of SPIIRAL, which implies a deeper commitment and involvement, one must (1) complete the five-year Training Seminar mentioned above, and (2) complete the “Entrance Pass” into the Freudian School of Quebec (which makes one a member of that School). Those in this position who are interested in Membership should (3) write a letter expressing the reasons and dimensions of their interest to the President of SPIIRAL, who will connect them (4) with the Membership Committee for an interview.
